Their cultures were different from one area to another an they quickly learned 'white man' ways in the eastern US.
South/Central American tribes in a large part were entirly different in most ways than their northern counter parts. I havent studied them a lot ,, did briefly way back in school and always thought they were a little odd to say the least.Dave .http://davkal.multiply.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3591298.post-19810377691616549952007-12-02T14:53:21.000-07:002007-12-02T14:53:21.000-07:00the natives of the americas did not hold to one un...the natives of the americas did not hold to one unified, chohesive belief concerning Mother Earth. in fact, the natives of central and south america believed that the gods were harsh and vindictive, requiring human sacrifice. nature was not a kind and benevolent entity.

though i don't know about the entire spectrum of natives in north america, i do know that the natives in the area where we live (colorado) did not necessarily "use every part of the animal" as we are often led to believe. not far from our house is a dig in which were found about a hundred buffalo that had been herded into canyon and then killed. the natives ate the meat over the winter but never got to the point where they ate the whole animal, let alone used every part of the animal.

i believe that a lot of what northern americans "learn" about the natives may be more wishful thinking than the truth of the matter. that's not to say that the natives don't have a lot to say that we can learn from. they do. it's just an admittance that even the natives of the americas were people, like all the rest of us. and like the rest of us, we often put ourselves before others - and put ourselves before the good of the larger whole.Meg Dunnhttp://barefootmeg.multiply.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3591298.post-31297483299257094732007-12-02T07:28:14.000-07:002007-12-02T07:28:14.000-07:00i have said for many years that mankind is destroy...i have said for many years that mankind is destroying theirselves an more importantly the earth by polluting it so much,, guess thats why i lean to the American Indian ways regarding their beliefs - esp regarding Mother Earth.Dave .http://davkal.multiply.comnoreply@blogger.com
